Single-Token Liquidity Deposits for Beginners
Deposit one token by swapping part of it or choosing an out-of-range V3 position. A pool usually needs two assets of equal value; a concentrated-liquidity position can hold just one when its price range sits entirely beyond the current price.
Keep these three points in mind before you confirm:
- For a position active at the current price, swap part of your token into its pair asset.
- For a genuine one-token deposit, choose a V3 range outside the current price and accept that it will not earn fees until the market enters that range.
- Check the network, pool, price range, swap estimate, and approval before signing.
Why does a two-token pool ask for both assets?
A standard pool needs both tokens so traders can exchange one for the other. For an active position, the pool sets the deposit ratio from the current price and your chosen range; depositing only one token cannot provide the required mix.
For a quick estimate, suppose you have 100 USDC and the pair asset is worth $0.50 each. If the position calls for equal value, about $50 of USDC and 100 units of the other token would supply $100 total. Swap roughly half the USDC, then deposit the resulting pair; the actual quote and amounts can differ because the swap moves the pool price and incurs slippage.
The alternative is a single-sided V3 position: set its entire range above or below the current price so only one token is needed. This behaves more like a limit order than a ready-to-trade pool deposit: it starts inactive, earns no swap fees while the price stays outside the range, and may turn into the other asset if the price crosses the range.
How do you deposit one token in the app?
First choose the network and the exact token pair, then decide whether you want an active position now or a one-sided position waiting outside the market price. On SpookySwap, choose the V3 position flow because the price range determines whether the position can take one token or needs both.
- Connect your wallet to the same network as the tokens and keep that network’s gas token for transaction fees.
- Open liquidity, start a new position, and select the pair and fee tier. For a position active at the current price, use a range that includes that price. If the app shows a second-token amount, swap part of your holding first, then return to the position form.
- For a one-token position, set a range wholly above or below the displayed current price. Review the preview to confirm it shows only the token you intend to deposit, along with the range and fee tier.
- Approve the token if requested, then add the position and confirm the transaction. Approving allows the contract to use the token; it is separate from adding liquidity.
SpookySwap V3 offers fee tiers of 0.01%, 0.05%, 0.30%, and 1%. The tier is the fee traders pay on swaps, not a guaranteed return; fees accrue only while your position is active and depend on your share of liquidity in its range.
What should you check before signing?
Compare the swap’s estimated output and minimum received with the amount needed for the position. A thin pool, volatile token, or large trade can worsen the execution price; if the preview uses the wrong token, range, or amount, stop and correct it before approving.
Consider price risk as well as fees: when a two-token position is active, market moves change the mix of assets you hold, and its value can end up below simply holding both tokens. V3 fees also are not automatically compounded. If your range is narrow, the price can leave it and stop your fee earnings; SpookySwap positions outside their range become inactive rather than being liquidated.
Before you act, ask yourself: do you want both assets working in an active position now, or are you comfortable holding one token in a range that may earn nothing until the market reaches it?
